Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10/19/2026

This policy explains what personal information Berkeley Yeast collects through berkeleyyeast.com, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We do not sell personal information for money, and we only use advertising cookies and pixels if you agree to them.

Berkeley Fermentation Science Inc. ("Berkeley Yeast," "we," "us") operates berkeleyyeast.com (the "Site"). This policy applies to the Site, our online store, live chat, and emails we send. It does not apply to other companies' websites, even if we link to them.

How We Use Information

We use personal information to run our business with you and, where you allow it, to improve the Site and our advertising.

  • Fulfill orders: process payments, ship orders, schedule ship dates, send order and shipping notices, and handle returns.
  • Manage your account: keep your login secure and show your order history.
  • Support you: answer questions by email, phone, or live chat.
  • Send marketing emails: product news, recipes, and offers, only if you sign up or are an existing customer, and you can unsubscribe anytime.
  • Improve the Site: understand which pages are used, through analytics, only if you accept cookies.
  • Advertise: measure our ads and show our ads to past visitors on other sites, only if you accept cookies.
  • Protect the business: prevent fraud, secure the Site, and enforce our terms.
  • Meet legal obligations: keep tax and accounting records, and respond to lawful requests.

Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising

Only essential cookies run until you choose otherwise. Analytics and advertising tools load only after you click "Accept Cookies" on our cookie banner.

  • Essential cookies keep the Site working: your cart, login, checkout, security, and your cookie choice. These are always on.
  • Analytics (with consent): Google Analytics shows us how visitors use the Site.
  • Advertising (with consent): Google Ads, Meta (Facebook and Instagram), LinkedIn, Reddit, and AdRoll measure our ads and let us show ads to people who visited the Site. These companies may collect information about your activity on our Site and use it with information from other websites.
  • Embedded content (with consent): YouTube videos and Spotify podcast players load only after you accept cookies, because those services set their own cookies.
  • Live chat: our chat window is provided by Odoo. If you use it, we keep the conversation to answer you.

Under some U.S. state privacy laws, letting advertising partners collect information through our Site for ads on other websites can be considered "sharing" or "targeted advertising." We do this only if you consent, and you can withdraw consent at any time (see Your Privacy Choices).

Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out. Advertising tools will not load, even if you click "Accept Cookies." We do not respond to other "Do Not Track" signals, because there is no common standard for them.

For a list of the specific cookies we use, see our Cookie Policy.

We may also disclose information to comply with the law or a legal request, to protect our rights or others' safety, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business. We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not share it with other companies for their own direct marketing.

Your Privacy Choices

You can turn off analytics and advertising at any time, and you never need an account or form to do it.

  • Change your cookie choice: click Your Privacy Choices here or at the bottom of any page. The cookie banner reappears; choose "Only essentials" to turn off analytics and advertising.
  • Use Global Privacy Control: turn on GPC in a supporting browser or extension and advertising tools will not load for you.
  • Stop marketing emails: click "unsubscribe" in any marketing email. We will still send emails about your orders and account.
  • Block cookies in your browser: most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Blocking essential cookies may break the cart or checkout.

If you opt out, we stop loading those tools for that browser. Opting out on one browser or device does not carry over to others.

Your Privacy Rights

We honor the following requests from any customer or visitor, regardless of which state you live in.

  • Access: ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
  • Correct: ask us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Delete: ask us to delete your information. We may keep what the law requires, such as tax records for past orders.
  • Opt out: withdraw consent to analytics and advertising (see Your Privacy Choices).

How to make a request: email support@berkeleyyeast.com or call (510) 900-7231. We will confirm your identity by matching details you give us, such as your email address and a recent order, before acting on access, correction, or deletion requests. You may use an authorized agent; we will ask for proof that you authorized them.

We respond within 45 days and will tell you if we need more time. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our response, and we will reply to the appeal within 60 days. We will not treat you differently or charge you more for exercising these rights.

California residents: we do not share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing, as described in California Civil Code section 1798.83.

Orders, invoices, and payment records

As long as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes, even if you ask us to delete your account

Customer account and contact details

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), and card payments are handled by Stripe so we never store full card numbers. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password for your account.

Children

The Site is for brewing professionals and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Where Information Is Processed

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

Changes to This Policy

When we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we will also post a notice on the Site or email customers.
